Recruitment

Every graduate recruitment program may apply the process slightly differently, but here is the general route!

TOP TiP: DO ASK

If you are unsure of the recruitment process, make sure you ask in advance!

At RB like many other firms the process has been carefully designed to ensure you're right for us and we're right for you.

The recruitment process is driven by the desire to find that right person for the job -

Here is an insight into a typical process to help you on the way to be that person!

Step 1: Initial Screening

Once your application is received this is where the process begins...

  • It is usually screened against a set essential criteria and core values to determine whether there is a cultural fit between you and the organization.

TOP TiP: DO NOT LIE

Step 2: Initial Interview

You have proven yourself on paper and got through the first step.

  • This will be your first face to face contact with the company
  • They are as much about you getting to know the company as they are the company seeing your fit

Step 3: Assessment Centre

Your achievements to date have got you this far but the core objective of assessment centres is to practically assess your capabilities.

Assessments are generally standardized to give each individual an equal chance to stand out from the crowd and make their mark.

They are considered by many organizations to be the most objective and accurate method of selection. As a number of different assessors get to see you, over a longer period of time than an interview and they have the chance to see what you can do, rather than what you say you can do, in various circumstances.

TOP TiP: GIVE IT YOUR ALL

This will be your first hands-on contact with the company and your real chance to shine!

Preparation

  • As always, do your research - Visit the company's website and read all the recruitment and other relevant information carefully.
  • Be sure to know date, time and place.
  • Check whether or not you will have to complete any tasks before the day. You may need to work on a case study or presentation.
  • If unsure of any aspects be sure to contact the employer - they would much rather you contact them, than turn up unprepared.
  • Refer back to interview notes - including your main areas of strength and anything you did not have time to mention.
  • Don't be late - Punctuality is the first assessment.

What to expect:

  • Icebreakers - to help you relax
  • To use your initiative - and partake in fast decision-making in activities which are designed to be stretching.
  • Group work and interaction - Here you can demonstrate your communication and problem-solving skills in action, as well as proving you can work effectively in a team.

TOP TiP: TEAM PLAYER

The best way to impress the employers is to come across as a good team player - being flexible, full of ideas but willing to listen to and help expand the ideas of others.

Remember on the day:

  • Recruitment is a two-way process - This is a great opportunity to find out more about the organization and to ask questions in a more informal setting.
  • Read and listen carefully - To all instructions and information provided.
  • Do get involved - don't be shy.
  • Perseverance - If a certain exercise is not your main strength, don't let this put you off as there will be plenty of other chances to show off your skills you do possess.
  • Be smiley, friendly and approachable - this is one of the easiest but best ways to make a good first impression to peers and assessors.
  • Remain focused and motivated for the whole day.
  • Ask for feedback- many companies have a feedback mechanism already in place. So be sure to benefit from the experience, whatever the outcome.

Areas you may be assessed on

  • Team working skills
  • Communication skills
  • Decision-making skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Time-management skills
  • Lateral thinking
  • International mindset
  • Listening skills
  • Initiative
  • Motivation
  • Enthusiasm
  • Creativity

Step 4: Final Interview

You have managed to excel your way past other candidates and you are down to the final stage. You have already proven your skills to the company and now is the last chance to show them the ‘real you' that is perfect for that job!

Few top tips!

  • Re-research the employer - now is the time to get the beyond the website material.
  • Review your previous performance, CV or application form - and think of how you can expand on any examples and give alternatives.

TOP TiP: LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE

Make notes after the interview too make sure you get something out of your time dedicated to getting this role.

Good Luck!
